Kristen Stewart is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing confidential counseling and psychological services to teens (14yo and up) and adults.

PHILOSOPHY

Kristen believes that psychotherapy is a collaboration and an exploration of a client’s life’s challenges, the ways in which a client might be limiting themself, the barriers that perhaps society has created, and creative ways to do things differently.

Therapy can only be healing when conducted in a safe environment and in a safe therapeutic relationship in which confidentiality is held (unless a significant safety concern is disclosed).

Kristen works with adolescents and adults who are experiencing life transitions, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, unresolved childhood trauma, and existential dread/anxiety. Kristen's therapeutic approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Existential Psychotherapy, and a bit of humor.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE

Kristen's education includes a Masters of Science in Community Mental Health Counseling from the University of Rochester in 2014, with the completion of her graduate school internship at the Willow Domestic Violence Center of Greater Rochester and a thesis exploring the importance of honoring domestic violence (DV) victims’ and survivors’ spirituality and/or religion if seen as a strength by clients in their counseling and what that looks like.

Kristen has gained wonderfully valuable mental health counseling experience through work with adults, teens, children, and families in New York State, Washington, and Oregon, including grief and loss volunteer work at The Dougy Center in Portland and over three years of serving our coastal community as a child and family therapist in/at Lincoln County.

Kristen believes in showing up authentically to therapy as genuine human connection is inherently important to the healing process of therapy. Clients can expect a balance of humor and seriousness.

In order to maintain her license, Kristen participates regularly in continuing education and trainings, taking courses that are relevant and meaningful to the process of therapy.

As a Licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, Kristen abides by its code of ethics.

PERSONAL

Kristen believes life is precious, wild, and incredibly painful. She believes that as humans, we are resilient and fragile. She believes that we are not meant to be alone or do life alone. She believes that any remnant of stigma around getting mental health counseling is complete bs. If life is our journey to grow and explore, then counseling is a tool in doing so.
